We always stay here and it has the prettiest grounds at any hotel I have ever been to. The pool is really nice and has a lot of different areas including a cave, several slides and several waterfalls. They built the pool into the landscape really well and I also like that it has a ledge that you can sit on around the entire pool. I made sure to get a Lava Flow every day we were at the pool. It is my absolute favorite drink.
We ate here the first night we were in Kauai. Outdoor seating with a great view of the grounds and the ocean.
We ate breakfast here several times. My parents always got the buffet which had a lot of good options. I did the buffet a few times and also got the French Toast a few times.
Beef Quesadilla and Virgin Lava Flow
Outdoor seating, not very nice looking but the food was good. Coconut Shrimp
Old building, there was hardly anyone there when we were there. Pineapple and Garlic Pizza with Garlic Butter Crust
The restaurant has fun décor with a good view. Teriyaki Steak with Pineapple & Volcano (Lava Flow no Rum)
Good view. Cheese Ravioli with Pink Sauce
View of the beach across the street. Teriyaki Burger and Frings
Tables on the beach. Lava Flow on the Rocks – Strawberries, Banana, Coconut Cream and Rum – Hawaiian Pizza Flatbread (more of an actual pizza than a flatbread) – We all got a shirt and I got a tiki cup
Had a long wait to get seated here but had already planned to go to Poipu Beach to see the sea turtles that evening and it was right across the street. Burger with Pineapple and Onion Straws and Fries
We ate here before we headed to the airport. We got there around 10:30am and all wanted lunch but they wouldn’t serve us anything besides breakfast. The table that sat down after us got lunch… Breakfast Croissant with Bacon
The overall eating schedule in Kauai did not work well for me. We always got up early so we could fit as much in as possible each day. Which meant we ate breakfast and then we usually ready for lunch around 11. No one serves lunch that early. And then a lot of the places close at 8pm or 9pm. I was not a fan of the timing of when we could get food.
My dad did not want to do this. He did not like the other helicopter ride we went on the first year we came to Hawaii. I did not remember very much about the ride. I wanted to do an open door private tour so I could take photos. It was great! Our pilot was fantastic and made sure to angle the helicopter so I could get the best photos. He took us to places that not every tour gets to see due to varying weather. The helicopter was relatively small so we could also get to areas the larger helicopters cannot fly in. After the tour was over, my dad said that was the best thing he had ever done and was so glad that I made him do it.
For a while I thought my dad and I were going to be the only ones on the tour. The other family was really late. Overall it was a nice ride with some good views, but it was pretty rough at times. There were a lot of hills and loose rock that we went over. We stopped for lunch at a secluded beach which was nice. Of course my horse constantly wanted to stop to eat the plants. We were very dusty after the ride and I was a little sore.
My dad always wants to go back on the tiny black raft tour. My mom and I refuse. It was awful and we did it several times. Have to hold onto ropes the entire time and it is really rough. So I picked this tour instead. The boat was nice, it had actual seats and shade. We went snorkeling and it was in a shaded area which was nice except it made it harder to see anything in the ocean. We did see a sea turtle and some dolphins but not much other than that. We did get to see a lot of great landscapes along the boat ride. However, the sun was in a bad location for photos during the time of day when we went. This ride was also rough coming back with the waves. My dad complained about it and said that the small boat would have been better… yeah sure.
It was difficult to plan a time to see the lighthouse, but we made it. It is open weird hours and not really close to anything else we wanted to do on the island. We got there just before it closed and just before it started raining so I was able to get some good photos.
We got here about an hour before all of the stores closed so we didn’t have a whole lot of time to look around, but we did end up buying a few things.
All of the beaches in Hawaii are public by law. However, some are very difficult to get to. A lot of the roads that would make it easy to access these beaches are private. Sea turtles come up on Poipu Beach every day.
One of my favorite places. It’s a rough hike if you actually plan to hike the trail. When we got there, it was hard to see anything since there were so many clouds, but we waited about 10 minutes and it cleared up.
We wanted to do some antique shopping and found a few stores but none of them were very big and didn’t have much.
